End of an Era: Sony Announces Physical Disc Production To End

With the digital world growing everyday and games getting bought continuously on virtual markets. The demand for physical media has been declining over time. Sony is the first company to ever officially announce the end of physical media. With rumors around the new PlayStation 6 being a complete digital console. With the announcement stated today, confirms it more. On January 2028, all physical media for new games will be discontinued forever. Any games released after January 2028 with not get a physical edition.

What does this mean for physical collector’s?

Most likely, Sony will still continue to produce collector editions items for specific games as they have been doing. Just don’t expect a physical disc to be included inside. As collector editions recently have just been coming with digital codes for the games. Expect that practice to continue from here on out. From Sony’s statement, discs with be discontinued but most likely will still produce physical steel boxes and cases.
